This oblong silver plated serving tray, also often called a gallery tray or waiter's tray, has the most incredible design features. Including a pierced edge, embossed handles, ornate floral design, and decorative feet.
This tray was made by the Sheridan Silver Company, a notable American silverware manufacturer that operated primarily in the early to mid-20th century. The Sheridan Silver Company was based in Taunton, Massachusetts and specialized in producing silver-plated hollowware and flatware.
The inside of one of the feet of this serving tray is marked with the Sheridan hallmark. This is notable for two reasons, the placement and the lack of "Silverplated" following the mark. The items is surely silverplated, but the other versions of this tray available for comparison all have the hallmark on the bottom of the tray and include the Silverplated word. This is an earlier version of this piece, most likely produced some time in the 1940s - 1950s.
This serving tray is truly a heritage piece and an example of fine American craftmanship.
The serving tray is in very good vintage condition. The tray has been cleaned, buffed, and polished. There is no observable damage to the tray, but there are some small spots where the base metal which is likely copper is showing through. These spots can be seen in the photos.
